Ryokan Boun

Kusatsu Onsen, Gunma, Japan

Overnight stay

A ryokan at Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma, founded in 1598 and run in the spirit of the traditional hot-spring cure. Six free-flowing bathhouses — three large indoor and three open-air — are fed directly from two of Kusatsu's principal springs, the Nishi-no-kawara and Bandai fountainheads; a new main building has natural hot-spring indoor baths in every room. Treatments are booked in advance at the Nagomi treatment rooms, and the grounds include a rhododendron garden and courtyard waterfall, three minutes' walk from the Yubatake.
