Othership Adelaide
Adelaide Street West, Toronto, Canada
Othership Adelaide is the club at 425 Adelaide Street West in downtown Toronto, which opened in early 2022 according to Toronto press at the time. Its core is a Western Red Cedar performance sauna heated to as much as 85°C, ice baths kept at 0–4°C including private ones, a tea room and a Social Commons. Interiors were designed by Futurestudio, which later worked on the brand's Williamsburg site.
A visit moves through heat, cold and rest. Othership suggests 15 to 20 minutes in the sauna, one to three minutes in the plunge and ten minutes at rest, repeated as often as you like. Guided classes are led by a facilitator, and Free Flow is a self-paced session with a guide available for first-timers. Changing is in non-gendered stalls, the space beyond is barefoot, and guests leave phones in lockers. Sessions are sold singly, in packs and as monthly memberships, and the club runs private events and women-only evenings.
It suits people who want contrast bathing as a regular, social routine in the city centre. It is not for anyone under 18. Guests with heart conditions, blood-pressure problems or a history of fainting are asked to get a doctor's approval first, and anyone wanting a quiet place to soak alone should look elsewhere, because the format is built around a shared space.
