An extraordinary feat of philanthropic preservation: an entire ancient camphor forest (trees up to 1,000 years old) and a Ming and Qing dynasty village were rescued brick-by-brick from Jiangxi Province in 2002 to save them from the Three Gorges Dam flooding, then relocated and rebuilt outside Shanghai using minimalist concrete design by architect Kerry Hill. The Aman Spa & Wellness Centre spans 10 treatment rooms, a Pilates and yoga studio, a Russian-inspired Banya sauna suite, and treatments rooted in traditional Chinese medicine.
